Newcastle Thump Villa
Season up and running with 6 star show
Slightly late in the day im afraid, apologies for that but being away on holiday but still think its worth a mention! Was a great way to get the season up and running last Sunday by thumping a team many would say should be up and around the top 6 or 7 this season.
Im sure many people outside of Newcastle will point the situation at Aston Villa at the moment with a caretaker manager in charge and James Milner leaving but at the end of the day you can only beat what is in front of you to quote an old football cliche and manager or no manager they still have a team that has good players and has been up and around the top end of the Premier League for the last few seasons.
I have always said and mentioned it in my report on the Man U game that its our home form against the teams outside the top 4 that will go a long way to deciding what happens to us this season so to put the Old Trafford defeat well and truely behind us and get the home programme of fixtures up and running at the 1st attempt and in such an emphatic fashion can only give the players confidence in the upcoming games.
Sunday was the best I have seen us play for a while and we looked in control for the majority of the match. Obviously John Carew did us a big favour but I have to say for me that was maybe justice done. I can see why the ref gave it and it was sloppy from Harper but Ashley Young was certainly looking for it for me and had no chance of getting the ball once he knocked it around Harper. Its one of those where if its your team you take the penalty but if its against you then you are slightly annoyed. Have to say Ashley Young went down in my estimations on Sunday, so much moaning, whinging and throwing himself on the floor.
Of course Andy Carroll took all the plaudits with his hatrick and rightly so, he looks like a really good player with bags of potential. There were question marks as to whether he could make an impact in the Premier League but I think he will have a really good season and for the record I said that before Sunday ;)
So the season is up and running, points are on the board and we can surely go into the next fixtures with confidence. What do people think of Sundays performance, was it a one off or can we have as good a season as that result suggests?
