Window Shuts with No Further Incomings

Hughton Leaves it at 5

The transfer window slammed shut tonight at 6pm with as pretty much expected no further incomings to join the previous 5 signings that have arrived over the summer. Whilst it would have been nice to maybe sneak another deal in I think you will struggle to find to many Newcastle fans overly disappointed with our dealings this pre season, its certainly an improvement on past windows.

Im certainly happy with our dealings. There were worries how many new faces (if any) would come in with the purse strings still fairly tight but I think the manager and the board deserve credit for their work. Not only have we brought in a good quantity of players to supplement what we already had but for once we seemed to actually take notice of where the squad was weak and have strengthened accordingly.

The other big bonus for me is that we haven't lost any key players. With the club still not exactly flush financially we are still vulnerable to other teams possibly prizing some of our major assets away with big money bids that the board may have seen hard to turn down. With that not happening and the only outgoing today being Lua Lua joining Brighton on loan then the squad is looking pretty strong numbers wise and there are still the likes of Steven Taylor and Dan Gosling to add to that when they return from injury.

On the subject of Steven Taylor it was good to see him remain here despite apparent interest from Celtic in a loan deal. Hopefully with the window now being shut until January he can get back fit and hopefully come to some agreement in terms of a new contract. Even if he doesn't then I think its still worth having him to call on when fit rather than shipping him out on a loan deal.

Out of all the signings its Ben Arfa that im really looking forward to seeing, think this guy could be an absolute bargain. Hopefully he will be fit and available to be unleashed on Blackpool in our next game, just gutted im going to miss that fixture due to some inconsiderate family member getting married during the football season - who does that!?

Overall it was a pretty boring transfer window with no real major moves. Sunderland shelled out a whopping 13 million quid on Ghana World Cup star Asamoah Gyan. Have to say I think they have paid well over the odds there for a pretty unproven player - lets hope he turns out to be rubbish. Elsewhere Birmingham were pretty busy with the pick of their signings being a loan move for Barcelona's former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb and Stoke also brought a former Premier League player back in the form of Eidur Gudjohnsen - both reallly good signings for those two clubs I think.

Have to say im always glad when the window shuts as much as I dont really like the windows. You at least know that nobody is going to buy any of your main players and it also brings the ridiculous transfer speculation to a close for a few months at least!

What do people think about our summer signings, has enough been done to the squad ro make it capable of staying up or possibly even more?
