Will Cisse Deal Mean The End Of The Road For Another Striker?
Newcastle Well Equipped In Forward Areas
Whilst it is great to see the club splashing the cash on a new striker you would have to say that this signing may not be good news for everyone at the club and there now must surely be a couple of current strikers at the club nervous as to what their future holds.
As mentioned when this deal was announced yesterday we are all hoping that Cisse has been brought in to play with Demba Ba rather than as a replacement so assuming they are the preferred 2 strikers then that surely means that the Newcastle career of at least 1 of the likes of Lovenkrands, Best and Shola Ameobi is surely in doubt and I think it's fair to say the obvious money would be on the Dane.
Of course every club needs competition, there will be injuries etc and obviously at the moment the 2 Africans are away playing for their countries but I think when everyone is available the manager will struggle to keep 5 senior strikers happy especially when you add to that the fact that the likes of Ben Arfa and Vuckic can play advanced roles off a striker.
I think the fact that Lovenkrands has been struggling to get on the bench recently even before the Cisse deal tells you that his days are numbered and I wouldn't be surprised to see him head for pastures new in this transfer window.
Whilst I don't think it will be a great loss if/when he does go he would certainly go with my best wishes as he has been a vital part of our resurgence over the last couple of years especially with the goals he scored to help get us promoted and has always come in and done a job whenever and wherever he has been asked.
Whether this signing of Cisse puts the future of either Shola or Best in doubt remains to be seen. I think obviously for the time being they will both have roles to play until the end of the season at least at which point I suppose a lot will depend on whether Ba stays or goes.
One player that I haven't mentioned that this deal surely hammers another nail into the coffin for is Nile Ranger as he now falls even further down the pecking order.
What are people's thoughts? Will this deal spell the end of any of the other strikers time at the club? Who would you get rid of if anyone and who would you keep?
