Bristol City Away Preview 16/17

Magpies Look To Follow up Reading Win

Newcastle face the long trip to Bristol City today looking to build on Wednesday's moral boosting first win at home to Reading that finally got their season up and running after the opening 2 defeats.

Our away form is something that seriously needs sorting aout given our dismal record on the road in the last few season's that carried on into the opening day defeat to Fulham.

This will be a tough fixture with Bristol City starting the season well with 2 wins from their opening 3 games and their defeat only being a narrow one to promotion favourites and fellow relegated side Norwich City.

Obviously after a 4-1 win you would probably not expect to see too many changes to the lineup although Rafa has shown in his time here that he is always ready to tinker on a game by game basis.

Diame comes back into contention after his knock apparently and despite the win on Wednesday I wasn't overly convinced with Clark's display so I think there is a good chance that Lascelles may get a recall after being dropped following a couple of errors in the first two games.

Personally I wouldn't change too much from there. You could look to maybe drop Perez or Gouffran to accomodate Diame - out of the two I would probably keep the Frenchman in after a decent display and the fact he gives you a bit more tracking back the other way.

Other than that I can't see too many obvious changes but with Rafa I don't think you ever know. He seems like the type of manager that is rarely happy with everything and he likes to keep players on their toes and is always ready to give someone a kick up the backside which we haven't had for a long time.

I suppose the only downside of that is you maybe struggle to get some consistency but I just don't think he knows what his best team is yet and I don't think that is likely to change until well after the transfer window has slammed shut and we know for sure who is going to be here until January at least and who isn't.

In the meantime we need to start picking up results on the road starting today. A win would be fantastic but at the moment I also don't think you could grumble too much with a point on the road if you had to.
