Newcastle Edge Past Vitesse

Three Goal First Half Blast Is Enough For Magpies

In their only home friendly of the pre season schedule Newcastle faced Dutch opposition in Vitesse Arnhem and got another win under their belts which at one stage looked like being far more comfortable than it tunred out to be in the end.

An early own goal from Leerdam from a dangerous Matt Ritchie centre, a clinical Dwight Gayle strike and a rare header from Colback put the Magpies 3-0 up and coasting at half time.

However 2 sloppy goals conceded from set pieces in the 2nd half brought the Dutch back into it and will worry manager Rafa Benitez with the season approaching.

Newcastle held out for the win though to finish pre season unbeaten.

Of course we all know that means absolutely nothing when it comes to the league getting underway but at the same time winning or at least not losing games can only be a good thing for the confidence.
