Wasteful United Made To Pay At Villa

2 Points Dropped As Magpies Fail To Take Chances

A last minute goal from sub Aaron Tshibola salvaged a point for Aston Villa and stopped the Magpies picking up another win on the road as today's game between the 2 relegated sides ended 1-1.

Newcastle were punished for not killing the game off after an impressive first half performance saw them go in at half time 1-0 up after Tommy Elphick had put Yedlin's excellent cross into his own net just before the half hour.

In truth we could have gone in 2 or 3 up with Diame and Gayle in particular missing a couple of real good chances.

It was a horrendous miss in the second half from Diame with about 20 minutes left that was the turning point and to be honest Villa could have gone on and won the game in the last 10 minutes as the piled on the pressure.

Our 2nd half performance simply wasn't good enough and another game where we have shown some complacency is a real worry.

I don't think the fact that we are still sitting in a decent position in the league should detract from the fact that this was another poor performance overall against a really poor side that we should have beaten with ease.

Have to say that I also wasn't impressed with the managers substitutions and general reaction to the 2nd half performance today either. How Diame managed to play the full 90 minutes is beyond me, he was awful and I also just didn't really see how the 2 substitutions that were made helped us really.

I don't want to keep on banging on about this but I thought Sels had another poor game and was partly at fault for the goal.

The manager seems happy to drop any outfield players that don't perform yet seems reluctant to do the same with the goalkeeper even though I think Darlow really deserves a chance because I just have yet to see anything from Sels that fills me with any confidence.

We have to be more clinical as a team - our most dangerous player today was probably Yedlin until he went off. The likes of Gayle, Ritchie, Diame, Shelvey all faded in and out of the game and the misses by Gayle and Diame of the 2 best chances were pretty woeful.

I know a draw isn't the end of the world but it just feels like we are tossing points away in games that we shouldn't be and are struggling to put complete performances together on a regular basis.

Norwich at home on Wednesday now becomes an even bigger game especially given that they moved to the top of the league today and sit 4 points above us.
